Well Rounded Athletes
A well rounded athlete is proficient in cardiovascular and respiratory endurance, stamina, strength, flexibility, power, speed, coordination, agility, balance and accuracy. These are the pillars we work on at Sacris CrossFit. You can come to a class every day and have a completely different workout.
One thing we see that frustrates people, in fact it’s happening right now in our 5:30pm class – you see tonight we work on power snatch. I hear one of our most competitive athletes say from the gym floor, “When will I ever be good at the Snatch!!!” I exclaim, “Never.” My words boom through the room, and a cloud of deafening defeat falls to the ground. You can hear a pin drop. I am not being mean, I am being real. If you participate in CrossFit classes on a regular basis, you will become well rounded in a lot of things, your numbers will improve, you will be able to do more and last longer, but you will not become an expert in anything.
Athletes with a very specific set of skills
The Snatch or Muscle Ups or Clean and Jerks, or even Double Unders for that matter, are all very specific skills. If you want to be good at something, you have to work on it. You have to focus on it. You can still do CrossFit. You should still do CrossFit. You do CrossFit AND you focus on one skill at a time. Decide what you want to start working on first. Set a time frame. Measure your progress. Adjust programming and continue. That’s why we have coaches. That’s why we have Coach Patrick.
